Miniature Caricature Carvings – Ozark Walking Sticks
One of the types of wood carving that has interested me from before Day #1, has been Caricature Carving or as some say, Character Carving. It has always intrigued me, how much detail and expression a well carved caricature carving can display. My caricature carving abilities are far from what I feel are great and amazing, but like all carving projects, each one builds on the last. Each carving that you complete or practice, will build your muscle memory and mental image of your subject matter. The more you practice, the better you will become.
Here a few of the miniature caricature carvings that I have completed in the not too distant past. A couple have been posted on here before but some are new. I thought this was a pretty neat line-up.
Now for a brand new one that is still a work-in-progress. This is a very miniature caricature carving of either a young girl or an old hippie. He or she is only 1 3/4″ tall. It was made from a piece of scrap basswood that I have laying around.
Hopefully, I can get some paint on this small carving and it will make it even that much neater. It’s amazing how much a little paint can do for a simple carving project. It would probably even look good with just a light coat of polyurethane too.
